Document Preview in SharePoint 2013

I really liked one cool feature in SharePoint 2013. Now we can see the document previews in Document Library and the search results. Though the Search Results one was earlier available in FAST Search but now this has been integrated nicely within SharePoint itself.

With SP2013 in the document library you don't need to open the entire document. You can preview the document like the below through the Document Library:

Also from the Search Result page, it almost generate the preview for everything like Office Docs, Web Pages, Discussion boards etc.. I really liked this new enhancement:

the feature of documents (ms office, pdf, etc.) preview also can be realized in SharePoint 2010 with third-party solutions, we are using Thumbnails for SharePoint: http://www.harepoint.com/Products/HarePointThumbnails/Default.aspx

Hi Manish,

This is a nice observation, but I have a question that does SharePoint support preview of all the document types considered by Microsoft Office or is there any particular set of document types that has been defined for the preview. Also Can I restrict the user to not to preview the documents which are legally bounded or has some region restrictions policy over the documents.

Let me know if you have any idea on the same.
